Foods to increase platelet count
Vitamins and minerals help in promoting higher platelet count. Folate rich foods as folic acid is the synthetic form of folate. Foods that contain folate are listed below:
- Leafy vegetables such as brussels sprouts and spinach
- Beef liver
- Dairy alternatives
- Breakfast cereals
- Rice
Vitamin B12 rich foods
It is known that Vitamin B12 is necessary for the formation of red blood cells. Low levels of vitamin B12 contribute to low platelet count.
- Eggs
- Fish such as salmon, tuna
- Almond milk
- Supplements
Vitamin C-rich foods
Not only does Vitamin C play a vital role in immune function, it also helps the platelets function. Vitamin C is found in many fruits and vegetables such as:
- Brussels sprouts
- Citrus fruits (Oranges and grapefruit)
- Strawberries
- Kiwi fruit
Vitamin D-rich foods
Vitamin D plays an essential role in the function of the bone marrow cells that helps produce platelets and various other blood cells.
- Egg yolk
- Fish liver oil
- Fortified orange juice
- UV-exposed mushrooms
